Ecuador scored a major upset by beating Poland two goals to nothing in what was a thrilling game. the Poles piled on the pressure and on two ocasions came close to scoring.

Germany pleased their home fans with a four goal to two win over Costa Rica. paulo wanchope score twice for Costa Rica and during the first fifteen minutes, the scores were level. Miroslav Klose scored twice for the germans which made the difference.
